White & Nerdy

If you haven't seen Weird Al's White & Nerdy video yet, you really should see it. It's a flippin' riot. I laughed my ass off the first time I saw it. Well, until I got about halfway through it, and then I went, "oh, fuck, that's me." Anyway, it's pretty good. It's also Weird Al's first top 10 song and album (Straight Outta Lynwood). The parody is of Chamillionaire's Ridin' (Dirty).

...

Apparently, I have a house in Paris. I wonder if they'd mind if I just moved into it.

Thanks for the pic, Simon.

Nikon D2Xs

I got my new camera today. To say I am ecstatic would be an understatement. I've been wanting this camera for a while (well, technically the D2Xs is fairly new, but it is basically a D2X with some firmware improvements). I've pretty much made the switch now to 100% digital. The thing that finally convinced me was that most of my favorite nature photographers have finally switched over. Hey, if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for an amateur like me. In the past I've said that it would take a while for slide film to be replaced, but I think we're finally there. The quality of digital is pretty damn good. I'm not too sad to see slide film go, life is a lot easier with digital.

I couldn't wait to break it in. Unfortunately, by the time I get off work these days it's getting dark, but I just had to go try it out, so I went down to the harbor to shoot some night photos. It was cloudy tonight, as you can see in the photos below, but I thought it made for some interesting effects. Here, you might recognize the Hilton towers near Seaport Village.

Here is another shot that I liked.

Well, expect a lot more photos on my site from now on, I'm going to have a lot of fun with this thing.

Jon Stewart for President

Man, I love that guy. More proof that politicians should just stay out of technology issues.

Thanks to Ian for the link.

*edit*

The video has been removed from YouTube. :(

Fun In The Desert Sun

Another Plaster Blaster event come and gone. It was downright pleasant this year, it never got much hotter than the high 80s. Not much to report this year, I didn't have the time or energy to do a full-blown write-up for a magazine like I have in the past. But, I do have a couple of good photos which I will share.

Here is a photo of Andy Woerner's (the local club president) Planet Express Futurama, a 43 lb. rocket on an Aerotech K1100.

The main event was the Little Joe that was built for this weekend. I didn't get any good launch photos, but here is a shot of the setup, and this one gives you a much better idea of how big this rocket is.
