Vista Sucks

Despite anything I may have posted earlier, I really do think Vista sucks. I tried it briefly and have since moved back to XP on all my machines with the exception of one laptop. Vista is just a pain in the ass. Apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks so.

I am one of the new Dell Demension E520 1GB Dual Core owners and am very dissatisfied with Win Vista. Most of my software will not run in Vista and when it tried Vista went into a serious corrupt status and would not restore. What a piece of grap.

I hear ya. The thing that really bugs me is that the OS makes a lot of decisions for you, and quite often not the ones you would have made. For example, the User Account Control feature. MS has gotten such a bad rap over security for so long that they tightened down Vista to the point where you get a pop-up warning any time you try to do anything. I ended up turning off UAC, until I tried to install Acrobat Reader, which gave me errors during installation. Checking the Adobe site, I was told that the fix was to enable UAC, so I had to turn it on again. Basically, Vista presumes their users have no idea how to manage their own security settings and assumes they are irresponsible about things like installing software.

VISTA sucks!!! I have bought a new laptop with descent specifications to run BF2142 and the patch says it will fix the issue but I still cannot run it and feel like I've wasted my money on both the laptop and the game...

Well, if you bought Vista for gaming, you might want to read this:

I returned my copy of Vista to MS for a refund. Put the money towards buying a Mac. I'm so anti-vista now, I created a blog to detail my thoughts. (vistasucks.wordpress.com)

I use Windows Vista for a few a months, I almost die of frustration, then bought a Mac, sold my PC to a friend. My life is better now, then reality hit me, and I installed XP on a partition on my Imac, because I use Visual Foxpro and Swishmax, now I have a dual system Imac. Heresy? maybe, but It work for me.

I really had an open mind about Vista. I even asked for Vista Premium to be added to my new laptop, and paid extra for it. I recall the adjustment period between Windows 3.11 and Windows 95, Win98 to Win2k, and then to XP. I was expecting some differences that I would just need to get used to. I suffered through 5 whole weeks with Vista... programs not working right, stuff crashing, annoying cryptic messages. I kept expecting MS to give a new magic update that would fix everything. Enough was enough, I "upgraded" to XP. Vista just sucks. If you own Microsoft stock, sell it and go short. Vista will bring Microsoft down.

Yeah, I tried the beta version and decided back then that I'd never upgrade to Vista. My wife will drag me kicking and screaming into Vista when she needs to teach it for her college level courses on Intro to Windows, but it'll be a chilly day in hell before I use Vista full-time by choice.

Here another one who is changing back to xp.
I bought a new computer and when you do, vista is pre-installed,xp is hisstory.
Just after two hours(!!) it had it's first crash.
Back to shop, re-installed.
Cannot print,hp says, no drivers needed.
usb doesn't work, my camera is not being reconized, when surfin'it will give the blue screen and starts up again.
when i shhut down (and really close it) I always can startup with moving the mouse.
Maybe MS should start selling this program to al-qaida.
Then this program would have a purpose.

My notebook comes with a logo "Vista Capable". I asked the shop to install XP instead. Since I already had 1GB of ram (512x2) and used up 2 slots, I did not want to throw them away for 2GB of ram. A friend of mind bought Acer with Vista premium installed. I tested his machine one day, it is very slow and sluggish. Vista always shows pop up windows asking you to confirm your actions, really annoying.

What a piece of crap. Nothing works right. Corrupt files left and right. Even system drivers having problems with Vista. Annoying pop-ups. My recycling bin icon just disappeared from the desktop. Just like that. That was the last straw!!!

DON"T GET CAUGHT UP IN THE HYPE. GO BACK TO XP OR BUY A MAC.

More and more stories coming out all the time...now we have the Vista WGA issue as well as acknowledgement (finally) that there is an issue with network performance when using WMP in Vista. This is getting ridiculous.

Yes, you aren't alone, now I'm really sure - VISTA SUCKS. Arghhh

This OS blows!!! One day my printer and scanner work perfectly now Vista doesn't recognize either. No new drivers are available. If I knew this was going to be the final product I would have never purchased it. Who needs Vista? What the hell does it do besides create headaches for the user? I guess I could pay $59.00 and ask the service rep. BTW you have to re-activate the OS if you upgrade your RAM or video card. MS calls that an "out of tolerance condition". I call it paranoia. Who in the hell would want to clone this thing? I hate MS!!!

I too am done with Vista. Not being the most dedicated pc phile, i recently bought my first brand new laptop and vista was pre-installed. Jeez, I can make coffee while waiting for this thing to boot up. The hard drive seems to run without cause, system crashes, games won't play. Last new pc I'll ever buy and last MS product i'll ever own. This laptop goes into the ocean at midnight tonight - no kidding...

Same Here... bought a new laptop and the GOD DAMN THING HAS NEVER WORKED RIGHT! Sometimes applications work, sometimes they don't. Sometimes the piece of sh*t can find a network, sometimes it can't. Half the time this hunk o' crap can't even find the internal DVD player that came installed with it!!! I have HAD IT WITH MICROSOFT!!

whew... I feel better.

Lets face it: technically vista is not very good OS

1. You don't actually need it -- No, think about this. Vista doesn't do anything you can't already do with XP. About the only significant shift requiring Vista is DirextX10, but as no titles support it yet and, according to John Carmack (the godfather of modern gaming) there's no need to yet either.

2. Cost $$ -- It's so blindingly obvious, most people will be blinded to it. You already have XP, and alternatives like Linux are free. If you really want to throw money away, go give it to a local charity.

3. On that note, it's outrageously overpriced -- vote with your wallet.

4. Upgrading hardware -- XP was demanding at release, but Vista more so. If you have an older machine that struggles with XP at the best of times, Vista is out of your ballpark unless you spend even more money to upgrade. If this is you, see point 1.

5. Driver support -- Key hardware like video and sound is crippled at the moment -- And thanks to the removal of hardware accelerated 3D sound in Vista, Creative's popular DirectSound based EAX no longer works at all, muting this feature for just about all gaming titles on the market today. Creative is in the process of coding a layer for its drivers to translate EAX calls to the OpenAL API which is seperate from Vista, but going by past experience with Creative drivers we won't see these any time soon.

6. Applications that don't work -- there's been plenty of coverage about applications that won't work without a vendor update. These include anti-virus, backup and security software such as those from Symantec, Sophos and ilk; CD and DVD burning tools like the suite from Nero need updated versions to work; and even basic disk management and partitioning tools such as Paragon's Hard Disk Manager are awaiting an update for Vista to be compatible.

7. It's a big fat target -- with a new and untested in the global wild architecture, virus and kittens authors are going to work overtime exploiting the holes Microsoft missed. In fact it's already happening. Loath though I am to use the word 'security' and 'Windows' in the same sentence, Windows XP has at least been patched to the hilt and can be used with a plethora of reasonably effective security tools that work now, without waiting for an update down the track.

8. UAC -- Oh yes, the Microsoft solution for an operating system where mutli-user was an afterthought. Sure, you can disable it, but the OS then makes it clear then that the onus is on the user for any damaging programs that got to run with permissions, rather than with Windows in the first place. If you do have it on, it is going to annoy the hell out of you. It pops up far too frequently, and even on a fast PC, the UAC screen takes too long to come up and disappear.

9. DRM -- And to a lesser degree TPM -- were made for the RIAAs and MPAAs of this world, and the even tighter integration of copy protection mechanisms and 'Windows Rights Management' into vista are nothing more than a liability to you, the user. This ComputerWorld piece says is succinctly: 'it's hard to sing the praises of technology designed to make life harder for its users.'. And to think you pay for the privilege of having the use of media you purchased and own dictated by third parties, even on your own system.

10. The draconian license -- somehow, Microsoft has forgotten that it built its business from products that empowered its customers, not hampered them. Of course, we forget that Microsoft's customers aren't you and I, afterall (see point 9). Aside from the backward thinking that is licensing, and not actually owning, your software new terms with Vista include being able to transfer the license only once; half the limit compared to XP for Home Basic and Premium on how many machines can connect to yours for sharing, printing and accessing the Internet; limits on the number of devices that can use Vista's Media Center features; activation and validation governing your ability to upgrade hardware and use Windows itself; and outlawing the use of Home Basic and Premium with virtualisation software, and Ultimate only if DRM enabled content and applications aren't used. But then again, who reads these anyway?

I run an IT consulting business and sell a lot of workstations/servers.

I have had all my clients purchase XP systems since my bad experiences with the beta versions of Vista.

I purchased a nice high end laptop with Vista Business. To my disbelief, things like Outlook Web Access do not work with it. TechNet is aware but said only in certain situations.

Some workstations/notebooks cannot get simple flash to work without installing firefox. There are about 9 fixes for this but most do not work on any PCs.

I wotk with MS and try to adopt their new operating systems but Vista is a step backwards.

Hopefully MS will rethink the move to stop selling XP to their resellers in 2008 or they are going to be in a world of hurt.

Here is some good news, somewhat. I wish they would have extended it even longer.

My favorite quote: "...maybe we were a little ambitious to think that we would need to make Windows XP available for only a year after the release of Windows Vista."

Ummmm...yeah. I just bought a new Dell Inspiron D830 and specifically requested XP Pro. It's running all of my apps and devices flawlessly.

VISTA DOES SUCK! HERE IS OUR VIDEO ABOUT IT...
http://www.blimptv.net

I remember reading starting back in December of last year about how bad Vista was, based on the test releases of it that had been made available to those on the MSDN. Right then and there, I vowed that Vista would NEVER be on any computer in our home, ever.

Where I work in a college library as a reference librarian, we just had a student in here a few minutes ago that was having problems with his laptop running Vista. I suggested rebooting, and wouldn't you know it, that thing took all of TEN MINUTES just to reboot!

Having switched to Linux a few years ago on my computer at home (I use PCLinuxOS, BTW)), thankfully I have no need for Vista (who does?), and in fact, Linux is an alternative I recommend highly to anyone who's been victimized by Vista. I'm here to tell ya, Vista SUCKS!!!

I'm one of those poor souls who laid down my hard earned cash for this piece of junk. Believe me, I've given it lots of chances but I'm now back with XP. The list of problem I've had is too long to list. Search stops indexing for no apparent reason, Control Panel flashes & won't open, file copying is at least twice as slow as in XP, it just goes on and on and on...

I’ve struggled with Vista since it came out. I have a dual core processor and 2 gig of RAM. I’ve never had an OS run so badly. When XP came out I didn’t say things like how badly I miss Windows 98.

I tried Xandros visual Linux and it’s great. However Adobe does not currently offer software (DreamWeaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, InDesign) for it. Vista runs so poorly that I’ve finally conceded defeat and I bought XP professional today.

It wasn’t my scanner not working that decided me. Nor was it UAC I disabled that the first week. I take many digital photos and have a big external hard drive. It takes forever to open a folder. It got faster when I disabled windows indexing. However it still runs like garbage.

I bought my current laptop with the intention that it would last me for at least three years. After this fiasco I’ll buy Apple going forward. If Microsoft was smart (and I’m starting to question that) they would use Linux and put a bulletproof command interpreter on it. It’s hard to believe how quickly a good company can go wrong.

With the dissatisfaction with Vista and the success of Open office I expect that Microsoft’s future is significantly less bright than its past. However they still have time to have surgery performed to get their head out of their rump.

Microsoft I’ve loved you in the past and I’d like to love you again in the future. Why are you treating us so poorly?

Rubbing Vista on HP Pavillion dv9443ca for two months now and not one problem to date. 90% of my software runs flawless. The other 10% Vista told me when I loaded it that it wouldn't work. I almost got rid of Vista right away when I bought the laptop out of fear from reading stuff like you all are posting but thought I'd give it a try. I've had no reason to switch to any other OS.

Anypne, I mean anyone, that tells you you will be happy with Vista simply work for MS. Stick with XP or be prepared to buy XP and reinstall your OS.

If your on a laptop, that's tough with all the drivers. But Vista will drive you crazy with the screen jumping around while you're typing.

I really do hate Vista, and everyone I know that has it does too. I hope you take this advise and not think you can fix it. No one else can.

Yep i bought a laptop of Acer, only an Aspire 3690. But with Vista on it. Because I only needed it to record my music I made with my turntables. So i didn't need a good processor or wathever. Well, if i knew it would be that bad, I never would've bought a laptop. Man, it's soooo slowwww!!!! Well i still have my desktop with XP, even with a much slower processor and less RAM, it can't be running more smoothly and perfect. I was just about to by a new desktop because i run AutoCad 2008 and several recent games. So i starting to need a Dual Core with a good videocard. But NO WAY I'll buy a new desktop with Vista. It's like throwing away money.

Vista is absolute crap. Enough said. I am also astonished how many people are so fed up with Vista they're buying MACS lol

I'm keeping the crap on my laptop, got XP back on my desktop. It's getting harder to get XP without spending a buttload and frankly, I need a product key to reinstall XP Pro cuz I have had to reinstall it too many times. Help if you can and for the rest of you, avoid vista like the plague, that is, unless you like the plague... then prepare for suffering worse than death, aka Vista (in case you missed that)
