NYC, Day 1 (cont.)

Went for a walk after dinner in the Times Square area. The temperature was a brisk 30 degrees. Being a Monday night, it was actually pretty quiet.

Times Square

Here is a shot I took earlier in the day at Central Park.

Central Park

I saw the oddest thing today, perhaps someone can explain it to me. Along 3rd street, between 49th and 48th, there were three city vehicles parked on the side of the road with their engines running. One was a crane, the 2nd was a mini-van, and the third vehicle was some sort of utility truck. And all the occupants of those three vehicles were asleep. Now, I don't mean nodding-off sleep, or leaning-off-to-the-side sleep...these guys were all knocked-out, mouth-gaping-open, slumped-over-to-the-side asleep. It was hilarious. I couldn't quite figure out why they were all sitting in their vehicles with the engines running when it looked like they had been asleep for hours. I was going to take pictures of it but I was worried I'd wake them up.

Well, 2 a.m. here and I'm tired. Tomorrow is museum day.

Hi George- I have never seen sleeping people in cars in NY... perhaps they were homeless? Taking a break at work & didn't want to lose their parking places? Dead?
Also- so sorry about the Cheeses sudden departure- he was totally in the dark about it. I know you'll have a blast all the same though! If you have time, go to the Magnolia Bakery in Grenache Village- they have the best cup cakes on the Earth! It is a very pretty area as well for photos. Did you see Duran Duran in Times Square this morning?
NY is such a fun place- ENJOY!
PS~ Blue Jet rocks, huh! Take a sandwich from the Carnagy Deli & a Magnolia cup cake for the flight home.
:)

Hey Linda!

Yeah, that was really odd, I should have taken a picture...sort of surreal and hilarious at the same time.

No worries on the Cheese, I managed to find a good rate at the hotel right next door so that's where I am now.

I might try to stop by Greenwich Village tomorrow but right now I've got a pretty full day planned tomorrow, and it is my last day, so we'll see.

I totally agree on Carnegie's...ate there for lunch today...the sandwiches are HUGE. Didn't make it to Duran Duran, when Gus called I was headed to the Museum of Natural History. That was odd they that played here in the middle of a weekday!

Okay, I'm off to eat a killer steak at Smith & Wollensky's!
